Checklist for Moving into a New House

Are you getting ready to make the move into your brand new MOJO home? Before you close one door and open another, we have put together a moving house checklist to help you tackle moving.

A HELPING HAND

You have the option of moving your belongings yourself or using a professional removalist or even a mixture of both. Starting off with planning the size and difficulty of your move will give you a clear idea on how much help you may need from a removalist company. 
Most removalist companies include a packing fee option to do all the hard work for you. Using a removalist to move large items like furniture and larger boxes is a great idea whilst you can take care of smaller things like kitchen items, clothes etc.

PACKING

Grab some good quality packing boxes from Bunnings along with strong packing tape and bubble wrap for fragile items. Having good quality packaging will ensure your household belongings do not get damaged in the move. 
Consolidate everything as you pack, either donate or throw out unwanted items and keep only things that you have room for in your new home or that you find necessary. Label everything clearly along with its room destination. Save a “survival kit” to last, this will include items like a kettle, tea and coffee, breakfast and bathroom necessities.

UTLITIES 

Once you know your move-out date, you will need to arrange for your utilities to be disconnected and connected at your new home upon your arrival. These include water, gas, electricity and internet.

INSURANCE

If using a removalist company during your move, it is important to have insurance for any items that may get damaged or go missing during the move. You can also check your current Home and Contents insurance to see if it covers moving damages.

UPDATE YOUR DETAILS

Be sure to update your service providers with your new address to ensure no important mail or information is missed. In addition to the utility services we mentioned above, providers include:
- Banks
- Licence
- The Electoral Commission
- Medicare
- Schools and Work Place 
Make sure any new purchases from online shopping or Hello Fresh are redirected to your new address. 

CLEANING

 
Take the stress out of moving and hire a cleaning company to come through your house and give it a once over before you leave to your new home.
