MOJO MEETS: Hills United Powerchair Team
MOJO recently attended a training session with the Hills United Powerchair Football Team held at Valentine Sports Park in Greater Western Sydney. These eight superstar players form two teams, the Premier League team, and the Reserve Grade team. The Premier League team just won the NSW Powerchair Football Association 2021 Premiership and will be heading to Nationals in October.
MOJO Homes were lucky enough to take part in their training and even learnt how to operate the chairs (it was not easy)! We had a chat to some of the guys about their experience playing powerchair football and what they love most about being a player of the Hills United Football Club.
Being able to represent the Hills United FC like my older Brother and Father did and being accepted into the Club as players who happen to be in wheelchairs really means a lot.

Having a disability doesn’t stop these guys – It was clear that all of the players have an immense passion for the sport, are extremely driven and have a positive outlook on life. Their energy and passion will instantly put a smile on your face, plus the camaraderie on and off the court is magical to watch. The support they have for the club and one another is truly amazing. We left the training session feeling like we had just gained a whole new bunch of friends.
The Hills United is more than just a club, it’s like a family. We all come together and we play for one another.
Abdullah Karim - Hills FC Powerchair Player & World Cup MVP
So, what’s next for the Hills United Powerchair Team?
The Hills Premier League Powerchair team are off to Nationals this October, but that’s not all for this eager and fun-loving line up. The Australian National team, the Poweroos will be competing in the FIPFA Powerchair Football World Cup hosted by Australia in October 2022. Players from the Hills Powerchair Team will be representing their club and Australia in the World Cup, which will be held in Sydney.
What is Powerchair Football?
Powerchair Football is a competitive team sport designed and developed specifically for electric wheelchair users. Powerchair football combines the skill of the wheelchair user and the speed and power of the chair itself to participate in an extremely challenging game similar to able bodied football. The game is played in an indoor Centre with two teams of powerchair players who attack and defend. The players spin kick a 33cm soccer ball with their chair in an attempt to score a goal.
