A Coastal Christmas table setting
MyChoice Design Studio, Interior Designer, Lorraine recently headed into the MOJO Homes Inspiration Centre to give us some styling tips on how to bring your often dull Christmas table setting to life with the Coastal style this season.
THE COASTAL STYLE
Long gone are the days when Coastal style embodied beachside cliche decor and motifs.
Today it’s a design used in both Classic and Contempo homes, and is identifiable by its perfectly relaxed, unassuming style, paying homage to its natural environment. And you don’t have to live by the beach to reflect the coastal interior design style in your home. Set against a crisp white backdrop, it’s an easy, casual look that transports you to a perfect summer day at the beach by using an ocean inspired palette of the beautiful colours of the sea, the sand, and the native vegetation.
COASTAL CHRISTMAS TABLE SETTING
“Our clients love the Coastal style, so we wanted to show how they can continue the theme of this style into their homes this festive season” says Lorraine.
LAYER UP
Create a relaxed, Coastal inspired setting by layering different textures. A beige or white linen table cover will set the base for this. We have chosen to go with a mixture of both. For the place setting, layer woven placemats for contrast of pattern and texture.
CUTLERY AND COCKERY
Add warmth with golden tones in cutlery and napkin rings. Combine a palette of green and navy blue for subtle sophistication through dinner and serving plates. Tie napkins in a not for a relaxed yet elegant look – no ironing, folding or fussing required.
THE CENTRE PIECE
DIY your own runner with garlands of leafy greens. The garland feels festive but not overly Christmassy and can be reused for other events. At the centre of the table, incorporate a wooden centre piece that will create conversation. We have gone with a star to fit in with the Christmas theme. You can also use a vignette of different sized reindeer to add festive flair.
GLASSWARE
To complement the table, two glasses at each setting is all that is needed. We have gone with a champagne glass for celebration and a tumbler.
BITS AND BOBS
Without over cluttering the table, leave space for single stem candle arbours for the ends of the table. Small tea candles can also be added around for a variety of height. We have added coral statement pieces throughout our garland to tie in further to the Coastal theme.
