Decorate your Christmas Tree in the Coastal Style
Decorate the perfect Christmas tree this year with baubles, ornaments and lights perfectly coordinated to the MyChoice Design Studio style, Coastal.
MyChoice Design Studio Interior Designer Lorraine recently headed into the MOJO Homes Inspiration Centre to give us some styling tips on how to bring your Christmas Tree to life in the Coastal style this season.
THE COASTAL STYLE
Long gone are the days when Coastal style embodied beachside cliche decor and motifs.
Today it’s a design used in both Classic and Contempo homes, and is identifiable by its perfectly relaxed, unassuming style, paying homage to its natural environment. And you don’t have to live by the beach to reflect the coastal interior design style in your home. Set against a crisp white backdrop, it’s an easy, casual look that transports you to a perfect summer day at the beach by using an ocean inspired palette of the beautiful colours of the sea, the sand, and the native vegetation.
COASTAL CHRISTMAS TREE
“The Coastal style is one of our most popular signature styles in the MyChoice Design Studio, so we wanted to show our clients how they too can replicate this understated, yet elegant, style in their home this holiday season” says Lorraine.
MIXED COLOURS AND MATERIALS
Bring the style to life with a mixture of colours within the Coastal colour scheme. Also think about materials and texture to create depth.
“The Christmas tree décor was inspired by hues of green and cream, incorporating glass and textured ornaments, hessian and reclaimed wood”.
BALANCE THE DÉCOR
Given the amount of decorations that will be placed on the tree, ensure that everything is well-balanced and spread out to your liking. Start from the top of the tree and work your way down. Make sure you place your lights on the tree first.
BAUBLES
Add flair and visual appeal with a variety of different coloured and sized baubles. Add these onto the tree in a “Z” shape.
LAYERS
Layer your tree with decorative ribbons and floral ribbon picks to elevate the tree’s aesthetic. Tree picks and floral sprays come in a variety of forms such as decorated branches, twigs, berries or pinecones. Use these as a subtle accent to complement the overall look of the tree.
TREE TOPPER
A statement tree topper is a must and a beautiful way to complete the look of your tree. A wooden topper in either a start or angel fits perfectly within the Coastal style.
