Designing a Home Office
With the increase of working from home or more importantly the desire to work from home, suddenly the cleared space on the dining table or kitchen bench is no longer cutting it as a home office. Homeowners are wanting to include a private space for work in their home designs.
LOCATION
Being able to separate work from play with having a dedicated space you can leave at the end of the day is important for work/life balance.
You don’t want distractions while you work and you don’t want your work conversations to be heard throughout the house, locating the home office towards the front of the house could be the perfect solution.
Ensuring adequate light is available in your WFH space is also important, exposure to natural light has been proven to reduce headaches and eye strain and also improves mood while working.

SIZE MATTERS
When designing your workspace, size matters in a few categories.
Will you require seating for one or two?
Do you have a sizeable, dedicated area to create a functional space?
Incorporating storage for paperwork, office and household items, such as full height storage, overhead cupboards, drawers and open shelves will help maximise every inch.
Where and how you work is another important factor.
The typical height of a work desk should be 750mm high with a depth of at least 600mm – 800mm to fit the trusty work chair under. Make sure you’re not cramped and your chair is set up properly, if not, it will not be a place you’ll want to spend time.
Another important consideration is having easy access to power for electronic devices such as your laptop or desktop. MOJO Includes a double powerpoint in every study nook, as well as an opening where wires can be neatly stashed away.
And don’t forget to take regular short breaks to stretch the eyes and the legs!

STORAGE
Do not overlook the importance of storage. Think about what you need and make sure you have the space for it. This includes room for documents, samples or a library.

STYLING
Strike a balance with these top tips to achieve a balance between functional, inspirational, comfortable and personal.
- Install open shelves to personalise your space with books, art or photo frames.
- Bring the outdoors in with an air-purifying indoor plant
- Add a mirror for a quick check out point on the way out the door.
- Eliminate distractions and eyesores by including hidden power points with cabinetry to conceal cables and allow for a discreet charging station.
