With so many design styles to choose from, bring your indoor style out with our MyChoice Design Studio styles. MYARD Landscape Design have shared their expert knowledge on how to make the best use of space in your landscape design.

LUXE & CLASSIC

Luxe / Classic gardens share so many dramatic grand feature. Both styles are characterised by symmetrical hedging & topiary making for a formal curated garden. Retaining walls are made with high end masonry products whilst incorporating an impressive staircase. Formal swimming pools showcasing a stunning water feature or even a one of a kind sculpture are common, but that’s where the similarities in these styles end. The type of plants you choose will define either a Luxe or Classic garden. Luxe gardens will generally incorporate a little extra colour into their palette, using dainty flowers such as Lily’s, Agapanthus and Tiger flower. A Classic garden will be dominated by lush green foliage, while showcasing typically white flowers, this can be achieved with Gardenias, Buxus, Murraya & Star Jasmine, the subtle hues of Hydrangea’s, or annual planting of Daisies & Petunia’s will help keep your garden interesting all year round.

COASTAL

Coastal gardens have a more relaxed vibe, adopting natural tones & textures to embrace its location. Blending decorative pebbles with large concrete or timber steppers is a stylish way to transition from hard surfaces to turf areas, greyed off decking will create an oasis that provides the perfect atmosphere for entertaining, incorporating artificial turf will not only add colour but the perfect play area for the children. Choosing plants that are robust & salt tolerant is critical for their survival, Banksia, Pigface, Frangipanis, Ornamental Grass or Native Costal plants are all perfect for the harsh conditions.

CONTEMPO

Contemporary landscapes are easily recognizable by their sophistication, influenced with simplest clean lines and arched curves. The utilization of dark timbers for decking or raised seating, with a flow of bold white concrete stepper or paths throughout the garden, large honed pebbles are used to highlight pathways or garden beds, geometrical shaped sculptures & strategic lighting also enhance the elegance. The trick with contemporary planting is not just the selection of palette, but more how you use it. This can be achieved with areas of minimal planting and combining different colours & textures, opting for Ball Topiary, Buxus, Zamia, Dragon Tree, Aloe Vera, Crassula and Zoysia Grass, will have that WOW factor.

URBAN

Urban landscapes have more of an industrial feel, incorporating a reduced neutral minimalistic palette of exposed bricks, timber sleepers or concrete retaining walls, rusted look steel garden edging & round sculptures. Dark steel beams that create a rafted roofed pergola & polished honed concrete garden beds housing simple & modest plants, drifts of grass planting , soft textured shrubs and deciduous feature trees such as Japanese Maple Trees help soften the sharp structural elements of the design.

GLOBAL

A Global landscape is elements blended from across the world to create modern, multicultural garden incorporating different moods and uses. When creating a Global landscape you have the opportunity to explore the variety of different colours, scents and architectural shapes that drought-loving Mediterranean and large leaved tropical plants offer.

The major advantage of Mediterranean, sub-tropical and exotic gardens is that lawns do not have to feature as part of the design. This means that the amount of water required to keep them looking lush is decreased and you don’t have to spend your time mowing!
