Styling Tips for your Dining Room
Let your inner Interior Designer flourish with our dining room styling tips
Whether it be casual weeknight dinners or weekend dinner parties, dining rooms are the social area of your home where food and conversation combine. MOJO’s expert Interior Designer shares her top styling tip on how to create a stunning dining space in your new home.
COLOUR PALLETE
If your dining room flows into open plan living and kitchen, it is important to create a sense of cohesion between the zones by selecting colours that tie in together.
To create a relaxed and welcoming aesthetic, use a neutral colour scheme consisting of timber floorboards, a timber dining table and beige coloured dining chairs. A neutral beige to white colour that runs seamlessly from connecting rooms will sit as the perfect backdrop.
For a more dramatic look, cool coloured grey tiled flooring creates a lux feel with a dark timber table and statement colour chair.

DINING TABLE
An item that should be around for years to come, the dining table is an essential element. Choose a table that is going to fit in nicely with your lifestyle. Whether it be big enough to cater for dinner parties with all your friends or the right size to seat your family.
Calculate the right size table for your home:
Measure the length and width of your dining space.
Subtract 184 cm from both the length + width of the room to allow a 92 cm clearance on all sides.
The result is the maximum recommended size for your dining table. For example, if you have a 36 cm x 290 cm space, the maximum size for your table would be 183 cm x 102 cm.

SEATING
Choose comfortable seating that is upholstered in a stylish and durable fabric that will stand the test of time. Seats with a high, supportive back are the ultimate choice for comfort and encourage everyone to sit back and relax long after dinner has been served.

FLOORING
A high impact area, choose a durable material that will last. Timber flooring is always a go to either in a straight, chevron or herringbone pattern. For a sleek look that is just as easy to maintain, large format tiles are a great look.

COMPLETE THE LOOK
Bring the whole room together by completing the look with a rug to create softness under the foot as well as a statement piece. For spills and crumbs, a jute rug is ideal.
Bring in nature with a plant in the corner of the room or a floral centre piece on the table.
