Laundry Love

Laundry, it has to be done, so why not in style? An often forgotten room in the house, but with pre-planning and the best tips and tricks, you can make your laundry a space you’ll actually want to spend time in.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

First things first, where is the perfect location for your laundry? Mojo’s favourite location is flowing directly from the kitchen or butler's pantry like our Charisma 37, Nautica 36 and Enigma 46
Ideally, your laundry should be placed in a services area, away from bedrooms and living areas and close to your garage. Whichever way you go, ensure your laundry has reasonable access to a clothesline.

SPACE

You will need to make sure your laundry has enough room for everything you have on your wish list; including washer and dryer, sink, countertop space, storage and laundry baskets.  This also includes room to move around and work.
Don’t forget a spot for your laundry mops and brooms! A combination of cupboards, overhead storage and drawers work well in the laundry.

APPLIANCES

Top loader or front loader? Knowing which way your appliance doors open is a must – this will dictate where you place your machines. A front loading machine can often sit snuggly under a workbench, however a top loader will need clear space.

FUNCTIONALITY IS KEY

Having a good-looking laundry is great, but does it actually function the way you want it to? It’s important to consider just how you use your laundry. Workflow space is important. Design your space to streamline the washing, drying and folding process. Positioning the dryer next to or above the washing machine reduces double handling.

THE PALETTE

Have fun or scale it back? Play it safe with neutrals that last for years as trends come and go. Add pops of colour through tapware, handles and accessories Or go bold with statement coloured cabinetry or tiles.

LIGHTING

Make the laundry as light and bright as possible. Lighting above the sink and shelves mean you can always see what you are doing. Let light in through splashback windows to allow natural light to dry any clothes that are staying inside to hang.
